School Sports Partnership

The Leighton-Linslade School Sport Partnership (SSP) was established in April 2005 in order to promote high quality PE and physical activity for all young people across the Leighton-Linslade area including the schools in and around Woburn Sands.  The School Sport Partnership is based at Vandyke Upper School, which became a designated Specialist Sports College in September 2005.  The partnership is made up of 27 schools which include two Upper Schools, five Middle Schools, nineteen Lower Schools and a Special School.

The partnership is part of a national strategy to develop high quality PE and school sport.  The main aims of the programme are to develop and implement the national PE strategy, to provide enhanced opportunities for all pupils to participate in sport and physical activity outside of school hours, to increase participation in community sport, to develop links between Middle, Upper and Lower Schools, to provide opportunities in coaching and leadership and to raise standards of pupils' achievement.

The partnership is managed by a Partnership Development Manager (PDM) based at the Sports College.  The PDM is assisted by experienced PE teachers in each of the Middle Schools who are called School Sport Coordinators (SSCo).  Each of the SSCos has two days per week to work towards implementing the aims of the programme in their school and their feeder Lower Schools.  (See the PowerPoint File below for a diagram of the Leighton-Linslade School Sport Partnership family of schools.)
